Most Noble Sir
I should long agoe have written to you & have thanked you for your many favours bestowed vpon mee here & in particular of your procuring mee a patent in England for the which at this present I have noe other way then in words to expresse my thankefullnes & infinite obligation vnto you
My busines here goeth very well, I have now finished one peece which delivereth 50 tonne with the helpe of one man onely the tryall hath beene made at Amsterdam it will fit with most of the Levels of the [word deleted] Countrey & deliver it 3 foote high, Allsoe I have allmost made one for deeper places as ponds & meares which will deliver 1000 tonne & over 6 foote high goeing with one horse, it will bee ready within 14 dayes. I have veiwed the <H.: Horster> meare the thing which they have all forsaken[altered] & can find noebody to accomplish it, but I find it soe easye that without any difficulty I dare vndertake it & with lesse trouble, then any such like place draine it, For the mills which by others have beene set there to little or noe vse I can make with some alteracion serviceable for my purpose & theire bankes being allready fitted will have a greate deale of Chardges & labour.
All the mills that are here placed vp & downe the Country to draw out water I can with small alteracion & little Cost make them deliver 3 tymes more & 3 tymes faster as high, & free the water which the mill casteth or draweth out from the old water which remaineth, which theires doe not but still a part returneth backe which my way shall not doe I am now at the Hauge & expect my engines here & am to show them to the States which being done I shall have my Octr<o>y confirmed. There is one [p Pamer?] & divers more which would asist

mee & joyne in a part with mee, but I refuse all & intend to doe nothing without your Counsell & direction, but if you should within a short time come into these parts It were necessary I had one to Countenance the busines, being willing to have but the halfe & that you & whom you should bee pleased to appoynt might have the other, The Mattere is is of a very greate consequence & after I have made it appeare to some at Amsterdam (which in part I have allready done) & the states haveing allready approved of it they will give an hundred Thousand gle <H.: guilder> for my proctery, but I know to get a farr greater Summe for the whole Land hath need of it & the Case is as Cleere as day & without any difficulty. Therefore. as I sayd before if you <come> cannot with the first, If you would be pleased to chuse any body to Cherish & Countenance the busines, that soe it might goe on with a Decorum to the good of all those that should have to doe therein, for I am resolved to doe nothing (having begunne with your helpe) without your advice).
There is allsoe a busines of greate consequence in England & I am enformed by the Earle of Malborrow, That the King gave a greate fen neere Porte [left margin, H.: or Poole] in Dorsetshire which if I could but see a Card of the Situation & the particulars thereof I should then know if my engines would serve for it, which if they would it would bee to the advantage & service of the Prince Elector & noe losses to vs, besides there are that would venter summes of money in that busines. Mr Endimion Porter & as I am enformed can satisfy yow of this particular sayd fen & as it is now hath noe profitt by it which

might bee brought to a greate benefite if being very large the quantity of 20000 Acres as I am enformed. If you should not come suddainely over I would desire you to give order heere that I might have 30lb. sterling I expect some money out of England, but because I would not bee put to a straite to agree with any body without your advise I desire for a certainty. Not doubting but that all will goe well & to our full content & therefore I humbly beeseeche you to let mee heare from you with the first, I am free from debt & have yet some money left but this I desire because I have a greate engine a making which the states shall see & then my patent will bee confirmed & the Coppy of my Octroy plac't vp in all places Thus having a place here at the Hauge where I shall bee till May I humbly take my leave &
