Good mr Hartlib
                in my laste I sayd sumthinge to you concerning that which mr Durey seeks from mee, in this I shall tell you, that with feare and trembling inregard of his sistir: I haue granted his desire, that is, I haue sayd my I, to his request; when we shall proceed further I know not: this as to one I value at <a> very great rate, being mr Dureys freind I relate, and as I haue confidence in your reflectiue[altered] freindship to mee, I now must beg you to inform mee whether the companie will not consider mr Durey sumwhat more, being a maryed man then single his charges being more: in mr forbesss time the companies gifts to him were almost the expences of his family, where as they haue not once presented your freind and mine with the value of one doit besids the Deputie doth striue to make a partie against what mr Durey proposeth that I know not but they will (certainly the would) cast him of; none of thes considerations shall make mee retract my word but yet I thincke it noe more then prudence to [left margin:] prevent, ill intented by the vngodly, and to seeke for a competencie which I may better doe before I be his wife then after, besides it may be

may be, you may soe manadge this busines that the companie may raise his stipent, or els at leste, secure what hee hath now from them. mr Durey importuns a full conclution; but that can be I see not, for his expences to his sistir has been great; and soe hee disinabled to furnish his howse, which is great and good, the states provide him with it; but in it hee hath not one bedd nor stool nor any earthly goods of his owne soe as what hee will doe I know not. I am not well and therfore am constrained to scrible and alsoe to conclude myselfe
