Premonstratensian Canons

Also known as the Norbertines, after their founder, Norbert of Xanten, or the White Canons, after the colour of their habit. The Premonstratensians were founded in 1120 at Prémontré by St Norbert. Whilst Norbert was influenced by St Bernard of Clairvaux and the Cistercians, the White Canons followed the Rule of St Augustine but observed a stricter lifestyle. The first Premonstratensian house in England was established at Newhouse, Lincolnshire, in 1143.
