Lay-brother (conversus)
Doodle of a lay-brother in a thirteenth-century Beaulieu manuscript
 |
A professed member of the community, distinct
from the choir-monks, who was chiefly engaged with the abbeys
agricultural and industrial work.
You can find out more about what it was like
to be a laybrother by playing our day
in the life of a laybrother game. You can also read
more about the lay-brothers.
