Jiefang Taiwan, wancheng tong yi (Liberate Taiwan and complete unification)
Title: | Jiefang Taiwan, wancheng tong yi (Liberate Taiwan and complete unification) |
Artist: | Gu Bingxin 顧炳鑫 |
Created: | c. 1950 |
Media: | nianhua (New Year print); ink on paper |
Notes: | In this typical Korean War-era nianhua (New Year image), produced by one of the most celebrated of propaganda poster artists in the PRC, a typically mutilated and bloodied Chiang is depicted as sharing with his American protectors a grey complexion. In a typical example of both 'perspectival distortion' and metonymy, the personalised and easily recognisable image of Chiang is contrasted to the monolithic image of the PLA solider. |
