Notes: | 'Old Chiang's violence will lead to destruction of China. Well-meaning people should assist Japan in quickly returning China to peace'. A uniformed Chiang, astride a pagoda called 'China' shoots at a Japanese soldier and a Chinese civilian who are trying to put out the flames of 'Communisation' and 'anti-Japanese sentiment'. This leaflet was included in a collection of propaganda from North China stored in the British Museum. An alternative version of this image was also produced (without Chiang) at about the same time and is included in other collections of Japanese propaganda. |
