panter (OSw) noun

A surety for failure to fulfil obligations or payments. Such obligations included participation in church-building (SdmL, UL, VmL) and wolf-hunting (SdmL). The payments involved fines for accidental killing or wounding (DL) and debts to the church (YVgL).
