Inherited property, particularly land, which could not be sold without restrictions, such as being offered to relatives first, and which might be reclaimed within a stipulated time. Originally, the specific type of ownership and the rights pertaining to it; ONorw GuL ch. 266 and FrL Jkb 4 state conditions of ownership for a number of generations or years. Often, though, used of any land regarding legal ownership.
