geneþer (OSw) noun

An oath making an opposite claim to a previous oath sworn by an adversary in a conflict; these were explicitly prohibited in YVgL, and presumably also in SdmL. As a rule, only one party in a dispute was allowed to prove his case with oaths or other means of proof.
